The Land of Transformation and Healing:
A Modern Approach
Reconnect, Renew, Restore
In today's world, where internet connectivity often leads to disconnection from nature and ourselves, Sky High Sanctuary offers a beacon of hope. Our mission is to reconnect, renew, and restore—breaking boundaries and building bridges for life, Mother Earth, and future generations. We aim to be a model for integrating indigenous wisdom with modern technology, promoting sacred economics, and living in harmony with spirit.
The Urgency of Our Mission
With the increasing danger of wildfires and the pressing need for sustainable living, our mission has never been more urgent. By restoring and renewing the land, we aim to mitigate fire risks and rejuvenate the environment. This involves planting more trees, improving soil quality, and adopting sustainable practices. Just as we shed layers of dead skin to renew ourselves, we must clear the dry brush that fuels fires and embrace sustainability.
Embracing Indigenous Wisdom
Sky High Sanctuary stands on land rich with the heritage of the Hill Patwin and Lake Miwok tribes. Historically, the Hill Patwin organized into tribelets with autonomous main and satellite villages. These communities thrived by managing local resources and engaging in trade with neighboring tribes, illustrating a profound connection to the land.
The Hill Patwin interacted with nearby groups like the River Patwin, Northeastern Pomo, Eastern Pomo, and Lake Miwok.
The Hill Patwin built various types of buildings for specific functions, including dwelling houses, ceremonial dance houses, and sweat houses, all reflecting their deep spiritual and cultural practices.
Building Sky High Sanctuary
Sky High Sanctuary will integrate the rich cultural heritage of the Hill Patwin into its foundation. Here’s how:
-
We recognize the historical and cultural significance of the land and engage with local tribes to honor their heritage.
-
Our architectural styles and materials will reflect Hill Patwin traditions, using the land’s natural features to guide the layout and construction.
-
We will create spaces for spiritual practices, drawing inspiration from Hill Patwin ceremonial structures, and include areas for rituals, meditation, and community gatherings.
-
Programs will educate visitors about the Hill Patwin’s history, culture, and relationship with the land through exhibits, storytelling sessions, and cultural workshops.
-
Incorporating elements from various religious traditions (Hinduism, Buddhism, Lakota, Christianity, Yoruba) will foster a respectful coexistence, reflecting our goal of breaking boundaries and building bridges between all faiths.
